disable onboard soundcard

Postby lorenzina » Sat Dec 12, 2009 9:40 am

Hello all this is my first visit to the Amilo Forum :)

I have an Amilo Pi 1536 with reaktek onboard soundcard / xp sp3 home edition, and i want to disable the soundcard and use an external one. I am a dunce when it comes to any form of advanced computer manipulation so could somebody, in layman's language, explain to me how to disable my soundcard in BIOS? have taken a timid peak in there and found no reference to the soundcard although i know it can be done.

Many thanks in advance

If there's no option in the BIOS, then you can't disable it there... - I don't know of any "secret" BIOS options that some notebooks have.

Isn't it sufficient to disable the driver for onboard sound in Windows?

It should be yes aspettl but ive found the onboard soundcard 'fights' with my external one. Disabling it in the bios makes sure. It has been done before in a pc shop but gawd knows how! In the advanced tab of BIOS rather than a list of items such as keyboards etc. there is just one line, something about 'execute bit', and its disabled.

I am still struggling with this one. I have just replaced my music production software and I am now using sonar 7 xl on my amilo. Once again the onboard realtek keeps interfering with my external midi interface. It keeps enabling itself in windows and Ive realised it is when I am trying to use ASIO drivers in my music program.

When I go into BIOS there is an advanced tab but all I seem to be offered there is the opportunity to enable / disabled one thing...sorry my knowledge of pc jargon is appalling...something to do with a bit-system?

Is there anybody here with a good knowledge of the amilo pi BIOS layout who can help me find the place in there where I can actually adjust settings?

Unfortunately the BIOS of consumer notebooks is very limited. I think you won't have any chance to disable the onboard soundcard in the BIOS.
Did you try to just uninstall its Windows driver or to disable the soundcard via the device manager?

Hello Hikaru

I am very sorry for taking so long getting back to you, it seems events took me way past the soundcard issue. My amilo motherboard has decided to end it's usefullness which is the end of the notebook for me as it would cost more than £300 to replace. I'm not impressed! This machine is not four years old and i'm £750 lighter and no laptop.

Thanks for your reply anyway, I wont be touching a fujitsu again :(
