HELP ME! Amilo D1840 and new DVD Burner Philips SDVD8820

Postby Kladiox_Earth » Fri Oct 13, 2006 1:49 pm

Hi, I have a problem.
I wanto to change my optical DVD writer mounted on notebook Fujtsu-Siemens mod. Amilo D1840W. I phoned to Fujitsu and they told me that I can buy this model for my notebok: PHILIPS SDVD8820.
But I have read in many forum on internet that firmware are unavailable. There's someone that has bought it?
If I wanted to buy another model (NEC ND-6750A) how I make to mount it? My old optical drive (RICOH) mounts an adapter. Can someone confirm that, for correct installation, i have to apply to the new drive, the drive adapter removed from the rear of the old drive?

Thanks in Advance

Philips DVDS8820 not working on Amilo Si1520

Postby Wernher » Sun Oct 29, 2006 5:14 pm

I bought my PC a few nonths ago (approx 3-4). Initially my DVD reader could read CD's. I then started editing videos and found out that certain DVD's can't be read. Now it can't even read CD's anymore. I tried booting from the recovery CD and even that doesn't work. I notice other people experiencing similar problems with the DVDS8820 on other Amilo models. Is this a common problem? What can I do to get it working other than taking it in for repair at Fujitsu-Siemens?

@Wernher
You could try to clean the laser lens by hand - maybe there's dust or something...
But you have to be very careful.

It is best you talk to Fujitsu-Siemens about which drives can be used as alternatives to the one in your PC. Apparently they do not all fit because of their wiring and fitment holes. They are however not very fast to respond, so good luck.
