It should be possible with Notebook Hardware Control and this ACPI file:

Use at your own risk.

Hi everybody, reviving this old thread, ever since I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 the fan on my Amilo xi2428 is always at max speed. So I ran into this thread, installed NHC, downloaded the ACPI file, but no luck, still can't get the fan control on NHC. I just copied the ACPI file in the NHC folder, am I doing something wrong, is there a different way to load the acpi file? any help would be appreciated. :D

Must be some kind of driver issue. I don't know what to do about it really. Is it possible to install the original drivers that came with the laptop? I had major problem when running Ubuntu, but the last version (Maverick) works pretty well. Actually, it is always a good idea to check for dust and clogged fan even if it is a hassle with all the screws. I hope someone else might help you further. Best of luck gcann!

Hi silverarrow, thanks for your help. I did use the original drivers, but the issue came from upgrading from vista to seven. Are you using NHC on your laptop? Could you please tell me how to load the ACPI congiration for the xi2428 in NHC? thanks! :D

I found the culprit, the BIOS! Downgraded to previous to last version and the fan problem magically disappeared, gee that noise was driving me insane
