AMILO Li1718 Cooling problems.

Postby Kristoffer » Wed Jan 06, 2010 12:56 pm

Hey! I need to know if there is any service guide on how to opening up my laptop? If you read this thread http://www.pchelpforum.com/laptop-support/82934-laptop-restarts.html you'll see that I have problems with the heat, and I don't think the warranty is alonger avaible because it was almost a year ago. So I need to remove the dust from the vents!

Sorry for my poor english, But I hope you take the time and read trough the thread I posted to, and you will understand! Thank you in advance.

I read the linked thread and will start from there:
The temperatures you posted there are really way too high.

It seems like you already know how to open the service door to access the fan. Did you already apply the compressed air? I'm not sure whether this is such a good idea because you can't make sure where the dust will go you've just blown off the fan. I would suggest to use a clean dry microfiber towel to wipe the dust off.

A second possibility would be to buy a cooler pad (google it). Make sure to chose one which fits your notebook in size (or is slightly bigger). It would be best to get one that has at least one fan placed underneath the grill of your notebook. You can also build a cooler pad on your own. Here is an example from our german forum:

The third possibility is to renew the heat paste. Here is a link:
https://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,1749,-V2030-Processor-Upgrade-Tutorial.html
This thread is about a CPU exchange but if you skip the steps dealing with the exchange itself you can apply this to renew your heat paste.
However this requires advanced technical skills and you should think twice if you really want to do that. You will lose your warranty if you do this. I'm not sure about the conditions in sweden but you should have two years of warranty and therefore one year left. If so you should contact the official support.
