Alimo Li1718 - Not detecting wireless adaptor.

Postby Simples31 » Mon Jan 11, 2010 4:01 pm

I have recently taken over a battered Li1718 from my son. It has been badly mistreated. To date it is on its second hard drive (just installed), 3rd screen and the keyboard has a couple of keys missing.
Having swapped out the hard drive, I took the oppotunity to dump MS Vista in favour of XP. Everything working except for Wireless adaptor.
I have loaded the FSC driver and the wireless led activates when the wireless button is operated. However the operating system is failing to detect the wireless card.
I know this to be the case as the adaptor is not found when I attempt to install the wireless adaptor driver. Also the wireless adaptor does not appear in device manager.
Any ideas please?

Taking into account the history of your Amilo, are you sure that the WLAN adapter is ok - or even present? Is it deactivated in the BIOS?

The laptop has previously worked via a wireless connection so bios should be good to go. Is the adaptor built into the motherboard or is it a plug in module? If the latter, it may be that my son's extreme treatment of the pc has shaken it loose. Where is it on the motherboard??? (My son has Aspergers syndrome & ADHD - a poor little note book didn't stand a chance!) :(

I've seen several times that during an OS installation my normally deactivated WLAN adapter got activated. I've never seen it the other way around but I wouldn't exclude this.

The WLAN card is a plug in module. But it shouldn't become lose on its own because it should be fixed with tho screws. I don't know the Li 1718, but you should see the module right after you opened the service door. Maybe reinserting it helps anyway.

Here is an image of my notebook:

You see the WLAN module in the lower left corner, with the two antennas attached to it. You should see a similar module (with pins on the short side) with one to three antennas. Although it might be situated in a completely different position.
