Amili pi 2550 CPU Upgrade

Postby leizii » Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:37 pm

Hi Friends,

I am the proud owner of a Amilo PI 2550 for about 2 years. It's pretty old, and the CPU is starting to be obsolete. I'm using it with ADOBE CS4 Applications(Flash, Premiere, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc). It's pretty slow and it gives signes of oldness.
Does anybody know how can I overclock the CPU(will this help me ? ? ? ), or anybody did a CPU upgrade to a AMILO PI 2550?

I will be very greatfull...

P.S. : sorry if my english it's not good.

Thanks
Andrei

The most powerful CPU that is officially supported is the T8300 (2.4GHz, 800MHz FSB [qp], Mp 12x). You could try to overclock your CPU with a tool like NHC but I'm not sure if this works because the BIOS has to support overclocking.
If you can push the FSB or multiplier beyond the values of the T8300 even faster CPUs like the T9500 or T9900 might work. Watch your temperatures!

Since I don't know which CPU you currently have, I don't know if a CPU upgrade or overclocking will help. I'd guess it doesn't. At least a new CPU is most likely too expensive to be a reasonable upgrade.

Hi,

I have also Pi 2550 and I'm thinking about upgrade my T5450. I don't know whether it is possible because it works on frequency 667 MHz. Can I put the CPU which works on the bus 800MHz like T7500 or T8300 :?:

The T8300 is supported officially. So this will work for sure.
The T7500 has a Merom architecture which is not supported by the Pi 2550 that requires Penryn CPUs.

I found that T5450 is MEROM.

Are you sure that Pi 2550 support only Penryn cpus??

Sorry, I mixed it up. Not the internal architecture is what matters (at least not in the Pi 2550), but the socket of the CPU. The board of the Pi 2550 has socket P. So the socket P variants of the T7500 (SLA44, SLAF8) should work too.
Unfortunately I can't say this for sure since the T7500 is not officially supported and the specifications of the BIOS are not open.
