Pi 3625 cpu upgrade

Postby Samb0o » Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:10 am

I have been loking for upgrade to my laptop Pi 3625.

It has GM45 as motherboard and T3200 prosessor which is too lazy for my video editing. I read that in GM45 socket P, i'm able to attach example T9400 prosessor (2,53GHz, 1066MHz, 6Mb, Micro-FCPGA). Is it possible and do i need to update BIOS? There is newer like T9600 too and that would intrest me too.

Wild idea is to get quad core in it like Q9100 which should go in it but its not designed for quad core prosessor, specially cooling. Could this be possible

This is chipset information from intel:

According to the data sheet the fastest CPU that is supported is the P8600 (2.4GHz, FSB 266MHz, MP 9x). This one works for sure.
However, the notebook also supports the T6600 (2.2GHz, FSB 800MHz, MP 11x)

Taking the FSB of 266MHz and the MP ox 11x, the T9800 (2.933GHz) shoud work too. And since it has the same TDP of 35W like the previous ones there shouldn't be any problem with the cooling.
Derived from the data above I guess that also Core 2 Quads might work, even the QX9300. But this is just a vague guess since I don't know what the BIOS actually allows. Logically the Core 2 Quads are 2 Core 2 Duos in one Die. This might be a problem. It has a slightly higher TDP of 45W, but if you don't have any cooling problems so far this should be acceptable.

cpu temp is 51 most of the time, sometimes little higher aometimes little less. I'd change the cpu voltage but bios wont let me :(

51°C is ok. If you put full load on both cores and don't get much above 70°C even 45W TDP is ok.
