HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N doesn't read any discs

Postby SanychSan » Mon Feb 01, 2010 1:53 pm

I've just bought AMILO Xi 3650 (18.4 (1920x1080), 2xHDD 500GB, Blue-Ray Combo drive (HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N). But there's a problem. BIOS and Vista initialize BD, but when I insert any disc (doesn't matter whether it's CD,DVD or BD) Vista says "Insert disc". No green light, no sound as if drive tries to read discs. Windows bootable discs also don't work.
Seems that it's all because of BIOS master-slave settings. Or... may be the new Combo drive is out of order.
If anybody had similar problem, it would be great to learn the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Since it isn't even possible to boot from that drive I guess it isn't detected by the BIOS. Is it?
Master/Slave seetings are unlikely because this drive is your only PATA drive. Your HDDs have a SATA interface which doesn't even know master/slave.

I would suggest to return the notebook to your dealer and to ask for a new one.

That's just the case that BIOS initializes the mentioned drive. It's hard to belive that in new top class laptop BD doesn't work. But as it turns out it can be. I think that the problem is in microchip or in both lenses. So there's no way but to bring it back to the dealer.
Hikaru, thanks for the help!
