Amilo Pro 2030 memory & bios upgrade

Postby Roy Davison » Tue Feb 02, 2010 1:14 pm

Problem: bought 1GB memory modules Dane-Elec Premium -
SODIMM PC2-4200 Fujitsu-Siemans Non-ECC that are advertised to work
with the 2030, but they do not work. Garbage on the screen and then blank.

Fujitsu-Siemens suggested I install new BIOS from
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/com/suppo ... loads.html
Current system info:
BIOS ver. 1.OH-2309-8A20
Amilo Pro V2030D
Ser.No. YBCV....
Model V2030D WL1

On the download site I found a BIOS 1.0I that is supposed to "Fine tune memory interface".
I downloaded the ISO CD image and burned it to CD. All seemed to go ok, but when I accessed
the CD, the CD had a title, but there were no files on the CD.

Questions:
1. How can I upgrade the BIOS (I am a little leary of this, since it could mess up the whole system
if the BIOS upgrade does not work properly, and results so far are NOT reasuring!).
2. Does someone know a brand and model of 1 GB memory modules for the 2030 that will work
with my current BIOS ver. 1.OH-2309-8A20?

Thank you.

That's ok, just try to boot from the CD. If there only appears a command line, then you'll have to type the command to start the flash software, e. g. "flash".

(I always use the verification option of the CD burning software, just to make sure the data on the CD is correct. It's also a good idea to load the BIOS default settings before flashing. Always plug in the AC adapter and put in the battery. See also topic,14,-BIOS-update.html)

Of course you should only flash the BIOS with your old RAM installed (which is stable, I hope).

Thanks! The BIOS upgrade worked. It would be good if these details with regard to
the installation of the BIOS upgrade were given at the Fujitsu-Siemens download
page.
My second question still remains, however, because after the BIOS upgrade the
1GB memory modules still did not work.
Can someone give me brands and model numbers of 1 GB modules that you know
work with the 2030 with the latest BIOS installed?
Sincerely,
Roy Davison

Hi Roy,

I have recently upgraded my wifes laptop (V2030) with 2 x 1GB RAM. It was quite a job to locate the right modules. The trick is you need so-called low density modules which is modules with 16 chips (8 on each side). There's a lot of high density modules (with 2 x 4 chips) around. However, if you install these, only half of the installed memory will be accessable. Problem is the number of chips are seldom specified, and even if it is you can't actually trust the dealer's info.
I have installed these modules with success: http://www.memoryc.com/transcend/ts1gfj165.html

Good luck :D
