Want to disable GPU throttling (Xi 3670)..

Postby kierenj » Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:06 pm

Hi

My clock speed is 1.1GHz when idling. However the lag for it coming up to 2.1GHz is very noticable. I use apps which are idle most of the time, but for example selecting text or even scrolling around is slow for 1 sec to 5 sec before the speed ramps up. This is not accetable.

It's the same whether the 'throttling' in the tray icon is on or off - whether on AC or not. I've gone into (Windows 7) power options and set "minimum CPU", and "maximum CPU", to 100%. No effect.

RTClock won't run, since it doesn't use a signed driver.

There are no BIOS options - I guess hidden by Fujitsu so users don't screw them up.

The Fujitsu english support site is broken, and the phone lines keep me on hold for 15 minutes (at which point I give up).

Please, please - any assistance would be great.

Sorry I can't really help you, but I think you're looking in the wrong direction. You shouldn't notice any lags at all in office tasks. No matter if the CPU clocks up or not.

Just a vague guess:
There might be some problem with your graphics driver in connection with hardware acceleration.

I think you are right, when using integrated graphics I dont see the same problem. (this amilo can switch nvidia vs integrated)

I've tried looking for new drivers, utilities etc, but I cant find a way of stopping the nvidia card reducing the clock speed... any ideas? :)

Thanks !

If the NVIDIA card causes your CPU to clock down there is most likely a temperature problem. How are your CPU & GPU temperatures?

No it's the GPU that clocks down - it has memory, shader and a main clock. They go from from 600-800MHz when it's running smoothly to 100-200 when idle. The change in clock speed as reported by CPU-Z coincides exactly with the slowness selecting text, scrolling windows etc .. ! (Temperature is all fine by the way, no intensive tasks running either)

So this is an issue of the GPU, not the CPU. Sorry but I know nearly nothing about graphics cards. Maybe you should rename this thread to attract others with more knowledge in this topic.

You can use RivaTuner to force constant performance level - meaning full speed all the time.

That sounds ideal, I downloaded it the other day and Windows7 said it was using an unsigned driver (not allowed), and I couldn't figure the GUI..
I will try again later today. Let me know if you have any tips :)

Thanks for the help guys -

hi there, i was wondering if someone had any luck getting the GPU of the Xi 3670 to disable its throttling. i have looked everywhere, but was not able to get any information regarding this matter and it starts to bug me (since im using only the NVIDIA Graphics Card without the Hybrid Function).
RivaTuner seems not working, cause a lot of features are disabled (incompatibility with graphics card , Mobile chipsets are not supported etc. etc.)

Any help would be appreciated
