Lines on screen/corruption/ warranty  Topic is solved

Postby jenksie » Sat Oct 21, 2006 11:31 am

Hi all,

Please please can i get some advice.

Whilst playing a game yesterday on my amilo m 3438g tthe laptop suddenly crashed, when i rebooted i got loads of weird lines on the screen (including the fujitsu siemens computers screen where you would go to the bios).

These lines don't exist all the time sometimes i get random lettering in random colours when booting.

Just before windows loads i get the blue error screen popping up briefly and the machine restarts. I can get into safe mode but system restores do nothing.

i tried flashing the bios, but when i try to type in dos some bizzare characters appear in place of the letters i type.

I contacted FSC and they say it sounds like the screen is broken (i dont think that is true). They have said if its a user caused problem i will have to pay £100 plus the repair cost.

Any suggestions on how i could fix this myslef, does anyon here have experience dealing with the warranty and know if i am likely to get charged for this?

please help me, i'm lost without my amilo

I'd say your graphics card is broken. It became too hot during usage...
This is usually (if you haven't overclocked!!) not your fault so the warranty should cover it!

Many thanks for the speedy reply. Thats cheered me up :) The card is not overclocked i run with the drivers that came with the system. Bit odd for it to overheat because i run it on a cooling base with fans, but fingers crossed its that. Many thanks again :)

If this was the case, it was maybe not overheating... Anyway, either graphics card or display, it should be covered by warranty. (To verify this, have a look at the warranty information that came with the notebook and check whether you have done forbidden things  )

I'm having the same problem. I created a new thread to anyone interested.

topic,456,-Laptop-crashing-ATI-chip-problem-Amilo-M1450G.html

The laptop crashes and freezes continually, I tried updating the bios, reattached the hdd, memory and cpu cooler(not wanting to do too much to void the warranty). The problem seems either to be due to overheating or a bad connection(light flexing can cause a crash), something connected to the ati chipset.
