There is a photo of the main board of an Li 1718 in the german forum:
https://www.amilo-forum.de/topic,29806,-Amilo-LI-1718-kein-USB-keine-Tastatur-kein-Touchpad-usw.html

Unfortunately it's from the wrong side, but as far as I can se there is only one PCIe socket (the horizontal bar close to the DVD drive) most likely right in the middle of the notebook when you open the service door.
Since the Lx series are the low budget models of FTS I wouldn't even expect to have a second socket.

I was considering that too, like many others did. But if you google for it you will find that the netbook SSDs that seem to be the obvious solution aren't actually using the PCI-e protocol, but PATA or SATA instead. They are only called like that because they use the same physical port like PCI-e cards. So this will not work.

Instead of that I decided to put a USB stick into my notebook:
https://www.amilo-forum.de/topic,24492,-USB-Stick-intern.html

Essentially what I did was to look if one can solder a USB cable on one of the USB ports from the inside. This seemed to be possible but since I neither have the skills nor the equipment to do that on my own I brought my notebook to a TV repair shop, told the guy what I wanted him to do and he did it. Then I took a fast(!) USB stick (Corsair Voyager GT - the old variant with SLC produced until early 2008), removed the housing and put it into my notebook. It's still slower that my HDD but for office tasks it's ok. I can't use this specific USB port from the outside anymore if my internal stick is plugged in, but except for that it works fine. Since then I run a 2nd Debian from it when I'm on the way and shut down the HDD. This gives me approximately one hour of extra battery life.

was thinking about this! U reading my minds! I wanted to put bluetooth dongle inside = ). I'm also thinking about changing speaker. Thanks for putting this post. I don' want to put usb memory as a boot device, because pendrive [ even good ] has a limit of operations.

That problem exists indeed, but it's overestimated. MLCs stand 100000 write cycles, SLCs even 1 mio. And wear leveling takes care that the write accesses are spread over multiple cells, so that the same cell isn't written again and again. Statistically the MTTF of an SLCs stick is higher than the MTBF of a common desktop HDD.
I know of only one example where a USB stick died due to too many writes. This was an older MLC stick (circa 10000 cycles/cell) that ran 2 years as the boot device of a file server, nearly 24/7.
I have multiple sticks that I use to run different Linuxes. The oldest and most frequently used is another Corsair Voyager GT that runs circa 30 hours a week for two years now.
