Upgrade Amilo A1667G hard disk

Postby bgeorgalas » Wed Mar 03, 2010 4:03 pm

Goodevening all,
I would like to change the hard disk of my Amilo A1667G notebook (that is starting to act strange).

I was thinking of buying a 320gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue 8MB IDE (WD3200BEVE) Has anyone tried it? Or has anyone tried a hard disk larger than 120gb?

In ebay i have seen sellers selling 250gb hard disk and claim that will work on A1667G....so i was wondering whether the 120gb limit was due to motherboard support or just because when the laptop came out 320gb 2,5" hdd was not yet available.....

Thank you in advance for your time.

i also find in this site:
http://www.best-electronics.net/index.p ... p50ca.html

a disk of 250gb..... if it takes a 250gb hdd would take also a 320gb one right?

Ok, disk arrived today, mounted it and the BIOS correctly recognises it.....
I also tried to boot ubuntu and recognises the correct disk capacity too.

As soon as i find the time i will install windows and ubuntu in dual boot but since it is recognised in the BIOS i think everything would go fine.....

Therefore:
Amilo A1667G with BIOS 1.06c can hold a Western Digital SCORPIO 320GB 8MB ATA/100 5400RPM (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=599) without problems

Final upgrade:

Windows xp sp2+sp3 and ubuntu 9.10 work fine and recognise the correct disk dimensions!

hope this helps others......

I don't like thread digging, but I recently acquired an A1667G and would like to know about your hard disk's temperatures. =)
