[Amilo 1650G] Input and USB problems

Postby Rarsonic » Sun Mar 21, 2010 6:38 pm

This is a really weird one, I find.

This laptop worked just fine until, while recording a CD-RW, it crashed. Once the computer was restarted, no input worked. That is, the keyboard, the touchpad and all USB ports just don't work, not even before POSTing, so not BIOS nor boot menu can be accessed.

The catch is: using a Linux live CD keyboard and touchpad do work. No sign of life from the USB hub, however.

Did you have any devices attached to your USB port that consume a lot of power (external HDD/CD/DVD)? I guess your USB hub got destroyed. If you boot from the Live CD, what's the output of lsusb and lspci?
Can you test if a PC-Card still works?

I have no idea why Windows (I guess tat's running from your HDD) doesn't detect keyboard and touchpad anymore.

Pardon my ignorance, but how can you get the value of these?

No. PCMCIA cards do not work, either.

Start from your Linux Live CD, become root and issue the commands in a terminal.

Concerning the PC-Card:
I guess you even didn't have the chance to test it properly. If you have your notebook running from the Live CD, please insert the PC-Card and issue the command:
Code: Select all
dmesg | tail

The same procedure with some USB device would be a good idea to test your USB hub.

lspci detects internal hardware and surprisingly, the PC Card. lsusb shows nothing, however.

dmesg | tail shows a list of hardware and drivers (I guess that's what it is supposed to do) but nothing USB related.

And, just in case, how can the Amilo 1650G laptop be opened? Is there any way to reset the BIOS, other than by removing the CMOS battery (which is most probably fused to the board, right?)?

Edit: corrected laptop name. It is "Amilo 1650G", if it is of any relevance.

Bumping thread, even if it's not really down the list. :|
