Amilo Xa2528/Xa2529 beta BIOS with AMD-V enabled

Postby Girith » Mon Apr 12, 2010 10:40 pm

Hello everyone!

I have finally obtained the A.0s beta BIOS originally meant for the Amilo Xa2529, but is working on my Amilo Xa2528 as well. The reason why anyone would want to install this beta version of the BIOS is that it has AMD-V enabled by default. If you want to run VMware Workstation/Player or Microsoft Virtual PC like me, that comes in handy. (Microsoft has released a hotfix for the latest Windows Virtual PC so it can run on systems that don't have enabled hardware-assisted virtualization)

You can get the .nrg image from here:
Code: Select all
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0KDWS22Y

Burn the image onto a CD-R and boot it up, after u boot it just press p and hit <enter>

Of course, if any damage or loss of data occurs I will not be held responsible and you are doing this at your own risk.

Since this is beta BIOS, it would be wise of you to prepare for the possibility that something may go wrong and prepare an officialy released BIOS that works good which you could apply and restore your system.

I have tested this BIOS on my Amilo Xa2528 and it works good for now, it has been a week since I installed it. The notebook is fully functional. I have obtained this BIOS from the german version of this forum, and users there reported the BIOS working on Amilo Xa2529 as well.

Enjoy!

did you try to boot it up? because it was empty for me too when I viewed it's contents in Windows, but it boots ok

EDIT: also, if you open the CD properties, you'll see there's 24MB of used space

hi Girith

very nice, works perfectly,

for people who wants to try this bios, following more instructions,

1 - download the nrg file witch is 2 Mo big (i used the rapidshare link, because for me the meagaupload link doesn't works, try all of them)
2 - burn it and you should have an empty cdrom with approximately 24 Mo of space use with a volume name 'nuovo'
3 - reboot your computer or boot the cdrom
4 - at the A prompt, launch P.bat
5 - read and wait the bios update progress, then press any key when ask
6 - reboot your computer, you can check that you have the good bios version by entering bios with F2 key, you should have A.0s version

i always run under linux for a long time on this computer, you can check that amd-v option is enable with this command line #cat /proc/cpuinfo and you should have all the instructions supported by your cpu with the svm option now.

under windows you can use cpu-z to check if this option is enable

thanks
see you
