Mini Ui 3520 Sound Issues

Postby Ash Tamburro » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:13 am

Okay, so I've had this laptop for around 3 months now. And the sound is terrible. It plays music but in such a bad way it drives me insane! Each bit of music that I hear sounds like some sort of a darlic sound? Then it's fine for a few seconds then it starts again, dragging out the sound and really making it difficult to listen to.

Any suggestions of what could be the problem? To put it bluntly, the sound is like listening to Stephen Hawking.

Thanks

Can you please boot from a Live stick to exclude a hardware issue?

Thanks for your reply. Can you be more specific? I'm not 100% sure on different terms...

Do you mean re-boot from a memory stick? If so, how?

Thanks.

Usually I would recommend to try a Linux Live CD. This is an operating system that can be started right from the CD without being installed to your hard drive or changing it in another way. But since the Ui 3520 has no CD drive, this is not an option. But a Live Linux can easily be transfered to a USB key or SD card. All you need for this is a program like Unetbootin and a USB key or SD card that is big enough to hold the image of the Live Linux. Unetbootin has a list of Linux distributions to chose from, which will be downloaded automatically. But nearly every other distribution can be installed if you download it in advance.

Depending on the size of your USB key and the speed of your internet connection I would recommend Linux Mint 8 (688MB, has to be downloaded manually) or Ubuntu 9.10 (690MB, in the Unetbootin list) if you have a key of at least 1GB. If you have a smaller USB key, try Slax (200MB, Unetbootin list) or SliTaz (30MB, Unetbootin list).

After applying Unetbootin you will have a bootable Linux Live USB key or SD card from which you can boot your netbook to test your sound card or do other things.
