Upgrades for Amilo m1450g

Postby eddyc » Sat May 08, 2010 6:32 pm

Hi All, :D

This is my first post so hello everyone.

I have an amilo m1450g.

I am wondering about what upgrades I can do on it as it is quite slow these days. I have already reinstalled the OS and upgraded to 1GB of RAM.

Does anyone know where I can find some instructions about how to access the other RAM slot (which I think is under the keyboad)? I dont want to just start prising it up with no idea what I am doing.

Also does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the cpu? Ideally I would like to fit a dual core but a faster single core would be okay too.

Any help would be fantastic.

Yes, the 2nd RAM slot is underneath the keyboard. Unfortunately I don't know the M1450G, so I can only give you generic tips. Most likely you'll find a screw in the center of the underside of your notebook which fixed the keyboard. It may be labeled with "K/B". Remove this screw!
Then it might be necessary to remove the hinge cover, what should be possible by unclipping it on the sides. Then you can slide the keyboard towards the display or simply lift it up. Another possibility is, that you'll find multiple small latches around your keyboard that have to be released to lift the keyboard. Take care for the keyboard cable!

The fastest CPU that will work for sure is the Pentium M 765 with 2.1GHz. Maybe the M 780 with 2.26 GHz will work too, but I'm not sure if the BIOS can handle the FSB of 533MHz. Later CPUs (including Dual Core) are not supported.

thanks hikaru,

I will have a go at getting that keyboard up. Would be good to get some more RAM in there.

As for the cpu I am not sure that I will bother. I was thinking that if I could go dual core then I could upgrade to win 7 and it would basically be a new laptop but I think this would be a mistake even at 2.1GHz on a single core. Plus the few pentium m 765s that I have seen are £80 or more so its probably not worth it.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi, I would like to know if you managed the upgrade of ram via the keyboard? How did you get the keyboard off? I have been searching Youtube but which video is the closest?

Thanks.
edit.

I found this will try it. :D
