Amilo pi1505 display problems!

Postby hudichk » Thu May 13, 2010 1:33 pm

Hello!

I have a problem with my display on Fujitsu Siemens Amilo pi1505.

Image

This photo isn't mine, I found it on some other board where someone had identical problems like I do. There wasn't any solution in that thread.

The problem you see on that photo appeared recently. Firstly I've updated and changed Intel chipset and graphic software and drivers. My laptop is running on Windows XP SP3. Nothing changed. Then I realized that if the display is the same in BIOS then it must be some kind of hardware error. I pluged in an external LCD monitor and it worked perfectly.

Before this error occured I had a display resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels but now I don't have this one between my display options.

Anyone have any idea what is wrong and how to fix this?

Did you already try the hardware reset (see FAQ)? It sounds like the BIOS / VGA BIOS doesn't provide the correct resolutions.

I've tried to reset BIOS to default and reset hardware but no luck.

Any other suggestion please?

I would also like to add that on the right side where there is that thick line on the monitor (see the photo) and at the bottom of the screen where colors are distorted, you can see the movement. On the right you can see a thick line of display (narrow line where 'E' from Quote button is placed). If you move scrollbar up and down display in that thick line on the right moves too! Also at the bottom if you move the mouse over start menu button for example you can see the bottom lines change the colors because of the mouse arrow.

Can you please boot from a Linux Live CD, start a terminal and post the output of the following command?:
Code: Select all
xrandr -q --verbose

This way we can see if the display reports the correct resolution to the graphics card.

Any CD from the last two years should be fine, so a half way recent Knoppix is ok.

This confirms my suspection. The native resolution isn't detected. Otherwise there would be another line above this one. So there seems to be some hardware problem on the way from your display to your graphics card. Unfortunately one can't tell which component it is without disassembling the notebook.

Is it possible that the malfunction comes from display cable?
The one that connects the display with graphic card?

I'm no expert in this topic. I'd say, yes it is possible that the display cable is the reason. But it could also be any other component in the chain.
