Amilo Pa2510 Windows XP

Postby namo » Thu Jun 03, 2010 10:03 am

Hello everyone,

i have a big problem. When i bought this computer it came with Windows Vista, later I installed Windows XP and it worked just perfectly. Some time later, my cooler stopped working so warranty fixed it but they renew BIOS. After that renew i couldn't no longer install XP, only Vista, Win 7 and all Linux versions. Maybe someone has faced this problem? Or someone knows how to fix this that i could install XP again.
Thanks in advance.

suggestion? don't be scared by Windows Seven... it's about 20% faster than the rest of uncle Billy's systems... & works smooth on amilo series.

In my particular situation, when I do need to install some app only XP compatible, I use the Virtual Machines solution:
- install VM software (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) it's freeware & 100% trustable.
-on the VM you can install the XP or any other OS you wish, (guarantee all your hardware will work)
- once installed the XP, you can proceed installing all apps you need as if you were installing them on the amilo.
- there are a couple minor tweaks you may need to do, i.e. assign a shared folder on tne amilo disk for file exchanges, install the Guest adittions app for VM, tweak some compatibility for hardware, but nothing too complicate...
You will end up with a window on yoyr screen, with XP running inside... and the rest of your software still running on W7 at the same machine....

good luck, & post any question about

I boot up from the CD, all drivers get loaded, and then I get the message: "Windows is starting". After this, I see the "Press ENTER to install Windows XP" message and in that very moment the laptop turns off.

Here someone had the same problem:

Unfortunately there's no feedback if the suggestion of Corpse works, but you can try ;-)

Hmm, I don't know what EISA is. Maybe someone could give more instructions about it?

The Windows XP setup sometimes has problems with existing partitions, this EISA partition probably contains the recovery data.
(But I really can't say if deleting all partitions will help. I had it once that the setup just hung, but the laptop didn't restart. In that case removing all partitions did work.)

If you want to delete the partitions you should create a backup, of course.
I suppose you could also remove the hard disk and see if the problem remains the same.

Did you already reload the BIOS default settings?
