Amilo Li 2735 Bios Key doesn`t work

Postby BunnyHunter » Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:39 am

Hi,

I have a Amilo that with the hard drive in shoulds 'Disk read error- Ctrl+Alt+Del' without the drive in I just get a black screen with a flashing white dash. The laptop will not boot to any CD (Ultimate Boot or Windows XP install disc). The key to enter the BIOS I know of (F2) does not work and no other keys (F11, Halt) will halt the logo screen and very brief flash of a POST screen (no way I could see an error on it).
I also tried the hardware reset, without success. I can fill the keyboard buffer, so the keyboard works.

I there anything I can do?

Did you try to press F2 multiple times to enter the BIOS? Sometimes it's hard to get the right moment.
You could also try to get a boot menu by repeatedly pressing F12 when the BIOS splash screen is shown, so you might be able to boot up a Live CD and check the HDD.

Thank you Hikaru for your fast response.

I surely tried hard hitting the two buttons, without success....
Is there a hardware possibility? (I have a screwdriver :) )

None of which I know. Maybe a sledge hammer would help. ;-)
Actually you've already gone through all the default steps we usually recommend in such a situation.

...perhaps taking out the CMOS battery for some time will at least make the BIOS work properly, so you could at least deactivate the splash screen and see what's going on there during boot. Unfortunately I don't know where the Li 2735 has its CMOS battery. I guess you'll need your screwdriver.

Maybe it's to late to send you solution to your problem, but... I had the same problem on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li 2735 model MS2228. I couldn't get into BIOS by F2 button after adding more RAM memory. I've tried almost every solution found on the internet but nothing helped. After very fast POST screen laptop goes to boot first from HDD, and if I remove HDD he is trying to boot from internal DVD-rewriter.
I've solved this problem using program: Kill CMOS ...and you can find it on Hiren's BootCD (surrent version: 13.1). After boot-ing from Hiren's BootCD 13.1 go to: Dos Programs >>> Next >>> BIOS/CMOS Tools >>> Kill CMOS (Wipe CMOS) ...and confirm BIOS reset, and after that reboot laptop and you can now enter the laptop BIOS by F2 button.
