Amilo D 1845 Graphics problem

Postby ColMac9090 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:20 pm

I have an old 1845 which I just use for basic work.

Yesterday, the screen went haywire with strange moving graphics all over. Some coloured blocks, some arrow head characters etc. It happens even when I boot into DOS before windows even starts.

The normal screen is still partly visible behind this corruption though, and if I let it boot, you can even see the windows (xp - up to date) log on screens and you can log in OK. Progs can then be started (with difficulty, as its not easy to read the screen, but it is there.)

So Windows appear to be working fine, If I send the signal out to an external screen however the external screen also shows the corrupted image.

I'm therefore assuming that since the external display is corrupted, it is not likely to be the inverter? Am i right? But I'm also puzzled that the "normal" graphics is still visible behind the corruption. So what else could it be.

I took the hard disk out to test the laptop starting without any settings that I may have corrupted and it still showed the corrupted image.

I'm quite capable of changing an inverter if needed - If it is that. Any suggestions on where I could get an inverter (UK preferably)

Thanks

The inverter is required for the backlight, so it shouldn't have to do anything with your problem.
I suppose the graphics chip (or its RAM) is faulty, or another part on the mainboard which has to do with both outputs (internal and VGA).

Thank you very much for your help.

Now to see if I can change the chip.
