Amilo Pi 1505 - diagnose liquid damage inside LCD

Postby ralphyd » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:14 am

After drying off liquid that splashed onto the LCD, I powered up the laptop; a loud beep sounded and a stain appeared at the extreme right of the screen. Looking at the screen directly from the front, the stain looks like a light grey cloud and doesn't distract much. However, looking at the screen from an angle, the stain is ugly (See photo).

This happened five days ago. I've been using the laptop all day every day since, and the stain persists, so I suspect it has dried out all it is going to. I use the laptop a lot and want to fix this, but I'm not sure how to go about identifying the problem. The information displayed under the stain is correct so it doesn't look like a graphics card issue. Any ideas as to what parts need fixing (cables, inverter, lcd, other) would be greatly appreciated.

Just a vague guess:
I think due to the liquid itself or a short circuit caused by it (or a combination of both) the various layers of the LCD have partly been separated.
