Amilo M3438G - changing the HDD (not adding a second)

Postby OronMuffe » Tue Nov 07, 2006 9:53 pm

Hello.

I have an Amilo M3438G with one FS HDD. I'm gonna change that to a faster one (Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 100GB 7200RPM SATA 2,5"). I'm not gonna ADD a SECOND HDD, just exchange the one already in the machine. Now, several people on the official FS forum have previously asked where to get the additional stuff, like pins, screws, adapters etc, when adding a second HDD, but my question is: If i remove the HDD already in the machine, I won't need those extra parts, will I? I can just use the ones the current HDD uses, right?

Also, would that HDD (Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 100GB 7200RPM SATA 2,5") work well with the M3438G?

Would appreciate a quick answer.

(And yes; I know about the lagging issue, that is not the question here.)

All the best,
OronMuffe

Hi,

No, you don't need any further screws or something else. The only fact which does matter is whether the Hitachi HDD got the same specifications, like width, length and so on.

best wishes

Thanks for your reply.

But isn't a 2.5" SATA always a 2.5" SATA? Isn't there a standard size? Because the HDD's in M3438G's are 2.5" SATA's, I thought I could put in ANY 2.5" SATA drive?

To put it simply: will the Hitachi drive work with my M3438G? :)

There are a few 2,5" drives that are higher (12mm instead of 9mm).

Hello everybody, I have an amilo M3438g, I saw on ebay that there are some 160 GB 2,5" fujitsu-siemens or samsung HDs, I already have 2 x 80 GB HDs, but it's not enough for me, do you know if it's possible change one or both with these bigger ones? Thank you!
