Amilo XA2528 RAM upgrade

Postby envoy » Wed Dec 01, 2010 2:33 pm

Hi!
I have an Amilo XA 2528 with 32bit Vista and 2GB of RAM. I'd like to upgrade to 4GB, but I'm not sure I can. I found out that apparently there are some differences for this model - there are XA2528 21P or ... 12P and some others. As I understand some of them can be upgraded, some not. Can anyone tell me how I can find out if I have a 21P or 12P or whatsoever, where do I see this number? And is there any use upgrading to 4GB on a 32bit OS, will it be able to use those 4GB?
Thanks!

Hi,

I thought 4 GB should work for every version of the Xa 2528, but of course I may be wrong. Where did you get that information?

You may have to update the BIOS so that it detects 4 GB. Of 4 GB only 3 GB will be usable by a 32-bit system. As always, the benefit of the upgrade depends whether you really need more than 2 GB...

Thanks for the reply, Aaron!

I was searching for RAM for the XA2528 on a US computer harware seller site (not sure which one) just to check the price and they had this computer divided into these mentioned groups and were not selling RAM for all of them, so it's more of a guess. Since I read before that it's a trustable company, I thought there must be a reason why they don't.

And yes, I need that RAM. I work a lot with photos in Lightroom and that would speed up my workflow a little. It's not the best computer for that type of work, but it'll have to do for some time.

Just in case 4GB won't work, try 3GB!
