SSD in Amilo Si 1520

Postby freestyla » Sat May 21, 2011 12:09 pm

Hi people,

I need to change HDD in my old good fujitsu and just ordered new disk Ocz Vertex 2 SSD 120gb.

Anyone has experience SSD + Intel i945GM/ICH7-M chipset? Windows 7 does the trick during installation or some separate drivers needed?
maybe that Amilo Si 1520 SATA driver found under Vista section ? its called: Intel Matrix-Storage-Manager Version: 6.2.0.2002, Intel 82801GMU SATA AHCI Controller

Cheers!

As long as BIOS doesn't act up, and recognize the hard drive, it should work fine, everything else is up to Windows 7, or your OS of choice. The only time I have had trouble was when I didn't have any hard drive in the computer. Even if you have external hard drive, usb or live cd option, it refused to boot up.

It would be very interesting to hear how your new ssd works :- )

Yep SSD works just nice in this laptop. As you said BIOS recognized it, Win7 no probs with installation.
Anyway I must admit don't see much improvement in temperature of laptop's base - it still gets hot on the right side like before.
Battery life is 20-30min better with SSD than 320gb SATA.
Windows startup is few seconds faster but the best improvement is with multi-tasking whilst working with few heavier applications.
Also processor fan is working less than before but I guess that's thanks to 7 instead of XP.

Sry for late reply :D
