Linux M1437

Postby altair2020 » Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:42 pm

I use Ubuntu Linux on my M1437 - Fujitsu support are about as much use as a wet paper bag.

However i managed to find a way to install Linux. Ubuntu Dapper Drake Beta 6.06 works fine for me.

The only trouble is installing the video card driver for Xwindows.

If you install Ubuntu desktop the install will be fine but X will fail to start. You have to manually download the most recent drivers to get it to work.

on this page if you check out my posting ( altair2020 ):

You will find the solution.

If you have any futher trouble contact me on MSN altair2020@hotmail.com

Via Raid Bios

Postby Quiasmo » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:42 am

Hi,

I´m having some problems to install Ubuntu on my M1437g.
If you could help me I would be thankful.

Did you change on Bios the SATA option to PATA? How did you do that?
Another thing, did you load the Raid drivers during the installation? How?

Thanks.

Ubuntu on Amilo 1437G

Postby Lajos » Sun Mar 11, 2007 11:44 pm

Hi!

I installed sometimes Ubuntu on my laptop.
The new release of Ubuntu (Feisty fawn herd5) worked fine, but I used vmware because i'm waiting for the final release. (Ubuntu 7.04)
So my opinion is the new Ubuntu is really cool:
sound: ok
volume wheel: ok
ati card, x settings: ok
network: ok
touchpad: ok
multimedia buttons: ok

I can imagine that the compiz, xgl will work... I can't wait :)

I believe a recent kernel fixed this problem (probably 2.6.21).

Ubuntu 7.04 uses the linux kernel 2.6.20, you need 2.6.21:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ ... Log-2.6.21

It's this patch:
Code: Select all
commit 2cf9f0fc69358e15e78f936c220cfe8aa208111d
Author: Tobin Davis <tdavis@dsl-only.net>
Date:   Wed Feb 7 16:04:25 2007 +0100

[ALSA] hda-codec - Add support for Fujitsu PI1556 Realtek ALC880

This patch adds support for the Fujitsu PI1556 laptop.
Issue:  Volume knob on system maxes out lower than alsamixer (0x35 vs 0x40).
Everything else works, and audio quality is good at 0x35.

Maybe you have to activate this "fujitsu" model manually...
Append "options snd-hda-intel model=fujitsu" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

:S

Postby javitu » Sun Jun 10, 2007 3:45 am

Hello!
I try it but the problem continues :S
I add the line in to '/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base' and restart alsa (sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart) and the problem continues :S
Note: I type alsamixer in the konsole (in kubuntu 7.10 live cd) I read this:
- Card: HDA Intel
- Chip: Realtek ALC880
However, if I run type alsamixer in konsole in kubuntu 7.04 I read this:
- Card: HDA Intel
- Chip: Motorola Si3054
Thanks!

Did you restart your computer?
Restart of alsa-utils isn't enough, I think.
