Si1520 and V3205 ext. display resolutions [1680*1050]

Postby inshadow » Thu Nov 30, 2006 7:33 am

Hi

I'm thinking about getting one of these two (should be very identically).
My main concern is that it doesn't seem to be able to output higher resolutions than 1600*1200 on the external port according to the specs.
The problem is of course that many of the new widescreen displays has a native 1680*1050 resolution.

Does anyone know for sure if this resolution is possible or not on these two models?

Hi Stig!

I have reports of one guy running the si1520 with 1680x1050 externally on the DVI, and supposedly it should work all the way up to 2048x1536 according to the GMA950-specs (but I don't know anyone who has tested it).

I don't know why the computer specs say 1600x1200, but pehaps there is a bottleneck with the memory. The si1520 can use up to 128 MB of the RAM, and 1600x1200 is larger area than 1680x1050, so if that is the case then it is natural for the specs-writers to choose to brag about the bigger one. But I'm just guessing.

BTW, I will buy a si1520 within a month or two.

Thanks for letting me know.
Do you know if he had to do something special to get access to this resolution? Like installing some other driver?

Hi, i have recently bought a si1520, and when i use it in my home i use it with a 20.1 samsung 205BW with a 1680x1050 resolution. This notebook can handle that resolution just fine.
To use that resolution i only had to connect it to the dvi port, then i switched on the monitor, than the notebook. Windows choose by it self this resolution.

Cheerio
