WLAN doesn't work or works poorly

If WLAN doesn't work, the solution will probably be one of the following points:

  • Windows XP: SP2 should be installed
  • WLAN-Switch at the notebook-case:
Turn on the switch or press key-combination to make the WLAN-LED light. You eventually have to install PowerManager or LaunchManager (from the Driver&Utility DVD)
Linux: The switch does eventually not work in linux, so you have several possibilities: WLAN works without turning on the switch (e.g. A1630) or you have to boot windows, activate WLAN and after rebooting WLAN should still be active. For other cases one of these tools could help: acer_hk, acer_acpi, fsam7400 or fsam7440
  • Update your drivers:
    Windows: English, German
    Linux: English, German
  • Activate "Wireless Connections"
  • Scan for Networks:
If possible use the client-application of the driver

If you can't find any WLAN-network, you cannot connect to it or it doesn't work...
  • If you haven't done it yet, update your driver. Also try the driver from the manifactor since these are often newer than the ones from the Fujitsu-Siemens-Computers download page.
  • Deactivate the MAC-filter (just for testing) at your router
  • Re-enter WEP/WPA-key. Be careful e.g. with I (tall i) and l (small L) - there doesn't appear an error with a wrong key, it just doesn't work.
    Eventually deactivate the encryption.
  • Update the firmware of your router, if the steps above didn't work

WLAN is slow/instable
  • If you haven't done it yet, update your driver. Also try the driver from the manifactor since these are often newer than the ones from the Fujitsu-Siemens-Computers download page.
  • Try to use other client-software. E.g. Intel ProSet on Centrino notebooks
  • Change the channel
  • Eventual if the problem still exists, close filesharing programs and test it.
