It is not possible to turn on the wi-fi card

Postby laserp » Sat Dec 09, 2006 2:52 pm

Hello to everybody,
I hope that somebody can help me. My problem is this: On my notebook i can not turn on the wi-fi card; in fact when i push the hoteky botton that should turn on it, i can not see anything. I try to install the atheros client utility and when i run the test, this programs say that "the radio is not on" and that i have to turn on the radio by ACU. The problem is that the button to turn on the radio by this program is not active.
I thing that the problem is due to a software called Power Manager, that make the interface between the hotkey button and the wi-fi card. In fact, when i had power manager on my pc i could turno the radio. Unfortunatly now it does not work (it produces a windows error), and when sometimes it works or better it runs, it does not catch the hotekey button.
Can somebody suggest to me what i have to do? Or if exist a way to turn on the wi-fi card just via software?
Thank you in advance.

Which model do you have?
Is there an option for WLAN radio in your BIOS? If not, then I know no other solution than to get PowerManager working...

Restart your notebook and press F2 when the Fujitsu screen appears. That will open the BIOS configuration screen - you have to look for something like WLAN radio and switch it to "enable" (if it exists).

Thank you!
I tried, but i don't have that option on my bios setup. Do you know if exist a software that can activate it? I know that others brands of notebook activate the wi/fi card just with a program without pressing any button.
I hope tha somebody can suggest to me one software.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I had a problem like this with an Amilo m7440 where after re-installing Windows XP the wireless card wouldn't work at all and the led didn't light. After checking the message boards a found a guy who had fixed it by resetting the bios. I tried doing this as shown in the FAQs section here
topic,11,-Hardware-F-A-Q.html
but this didn't work.

I then downloaded the bios-flashing program from the downloads section at the fujitsu siemens website here:
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/ ... loads.html

and this did work.

I don't know your machine so this might NOT be the solution at all but maybe it is something to do with this? I think there is also a utility called power manager on the website which might or might not be relevent?

I also think you have to be VERY CAREFUL with this program and READ all the instructions as if you use it wrongly it can damage your system further!!!!!!

Good luck!

You're welcome

No problem, you're very welcome.

For me, it wasn't too difficult but I understand that it is a process that could
mess up the computer if it went wrong. Also, it might not be the solution for your problem even if it was for so it's best to be careful and check. I wouldn't want to make the problem worse as I've had some bad experiences with computers going wrong!!!

Maybe, another user with more knowledge could offer further advice?

All the best!
