Amilo Pro V2000 Intermittent battery

Postby megajocke » Tue Dec 19, 2006 7:10 pm

We have tried replacing the battery with a new one, but still it's intermittent. It works fine off the AC adapter. If you bend the laptop a little one way it will work off the battery, if you bend it the other way it will shut off.

If the AC adapter is connected it will continue to work but beep when you bend it and the battery status seen in windows will change to "not present" or something like that.

I'm not very surprised though, the laptop is way more flexible than any other I've seen. It's pretty thin for its size.

I'm wondering if someone has disassembly instructions for this laptop.

We got it apart. Everything except the mainboard had to be removed to get to the battery connector  The soldering looked dodgy, balls of solder on the pins. We resoldered and now it works it seems :D

I think we started with removing the keyboard, or maybe it was the part with the speakers and power button. There are snaps around the edges. Some parts are conneced by thin flex cables so be careful so you don't break them. There are screws from the bottom of the laptop that hold the top on and also snaps around the edge. There's a screw when you remove the hard drive too I think... We removed the CD drive too.

To get the top of you also need to disconnect some cables. Backup battery, buttons to the left etc... The display is connected with two connectors, both need to be disconnected. The antennaes for the wireless card needs to be removed and the wireless card can be removed too. You then have to unscrew the display  I think to get any further.

I don't remember, but there might be screws holding down the plastic top part below the keyboard too. When the plastic comes off there is still some metal screens over the mainboard, think they were screwed down...

When we got down to the mainboard we just reheated the connections and added a little solder, we didn't figure out how to get to the bottom of the card. I think we later realized that it was no idea, maybe it was that the pins from the connector didn't go through the board...

If you don't have much soldering or disassembly experience I suggest you get help from someone who does, it was a bit tricky. Good luck, and be careful.
