M1437G switch on/wake up problem, possibly battery related?

Postby stigchel » Fri Dec 22, 2006 8:54 am

Hello all,

I've been working on a M series 1437G for a year now. No problems, apart from the quick launch key for power dvd not working, but that turned out to be my own rather disturbing stupidity.

Now however I have a problem that I can't figure out. I always have my amilo on power. I hardly ever go mobile with it. When I'm done working on it, I simply close the lid and it goes into standby. When I press the power button it used to come back, but now nothing happens. The moon symbol and the battery symbol blinck, like they should, but when I press the power button both lights die slowly and nothing happens. When I hit it again, the battery light starts blinking again, but no action. I have to unplug the power cable and press the power button twice for it to switch on.

Apart from this, it doesn't come out of standby, it reboots afresh. So apart from the power button not working, it also forgets it was on standby.

I have replaced the motherboard battery in the hope that that would solve it (seemed the most logical solution), but alas.

I now fear my battery is bust. I just read about the bios reset. I'll try that when I get home. But I thought it couldn't hurt to gather alternatives in the meantime. I don't think that'll solve it, because I never changed anything in the bios. It is in factory setting as it is.

Any thoughts? Am I looking at a rather expensive new battery?

not the battery, so then what?

Some deductive expirimentation has revealed that it's not the battery that is the problem. The problem remains even when there is no battery in the system.

I am now leaning towards the actual power switch itself. I don't think windows has that big an influense on the powerbutton (it should work without windows too, I assume) so the button itself might be broken in some way.

Any thoughts on that? Anyone with broken powerbuttons? I would hate to send in the entire system and be without it for weeks.

Hi,
very strange problem! It could be the button...
The windows could be "broken" in some way, but I suppose you already use a fresh install. Problems of this sort happen with problematic drivers, but I also use my amilo without such problems with XP Home. So if your software is ok, then don't lose your time condsidering what could be... in the FSC Service will exchange your motherboard, which I hope will solve the problem.
