Linux on an Amilo pro V3205

Postby davkt8 » Fri Dec 22, 2006 2:06 pm

Hi,
I've read plenty about the bits that don't work in various linux instalations on a V3205, just wondering if anyone has found a variation of Linux that installs and everything works straight away.
Cheers
David

Not managed to get Knoppix to boot off either the live CD or DVD. I have got Ubuntu up but even though it recognises there is a wifi card there, lets me but in the details of my network and seems to be using it (lots of flashing on the wireless light) I can't get an internet connection going. Lots more distros to try I'll report back if I get it all to work!

I've tried Sabayon 3.26 the other day. Very nice x64 distro, Gentoo based. Everything works except the sound, found quick workaround. Can highly recommend this puppy.

Well wifi is working with Ubuntu, Sound is very quiet and at the moment I don't have widescreen resolutions available but getting there. This little lappy is way to cool for windoze!
Think it was my TV RF sender unit interfering with things eariler so I'll try knoppix again as I liked the looks of it!

OK,
Got wifi and bluetooth working in Ubuntu and Mandriva One, cant get Knoppix to fire up the wifi card so looks like that is out.
Both of them I need to figure out what to add where to a config file to sort out screen resolution and both are very quiet on sound output regardless of if I use ALSA or OSS.
Other than that I think I am close to being able to get rid of Windoze altogether :D :D :D

Sound works fine in Sabayon (other than all been muted on power on) using Kmixer so looks like a bug in ALSA/OSS. Bluetooth working straight from the box, haven't written anything but the system knows it has a DVD RW. So assuming the wifi works once I get home I can get rid of Windoze from my little lappie!

Sabayon it is!
Wifi, bluetooth, WXGA, sound all working. Just need to sort it out so 3D works now its installed on my hard drive as it did on the live DVD and windoze will be gone for ever from this lappy!

I've tried the liveCd of Sabayon and everything worked except the wifi and the card-reader. Since I need the card-reader I then installed Ubuntu 7.04 beta, which works almost perfectly (except for the fact that the touchpad stops working after a suspend/resume).
Ciao!
