hibernate on amilo v2040

Postby dikov » Sat Apr 01, 2006 10:52 pm

Hi there,

Is there anybody who was successful in hibernating V2040 ro 2030, 2045?

I have Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo V2040. Two OS run there: preinstaled XP and ALT Linux. I'm trying to make working hibernate under Linux.
The problem is that after suspending (either to-RAM or to-disk) it wount resume. When I starts notebook after suspending there is just black screen. Only shut-down as escape works.

Thanks in advance

Did you try to patch your kernel? http://www.suspend2.net/

Hi.
yes my kernel (2.6.14-wks26-up-alt4) supports suspending.

Here is moiety of dmesg related to suspend
Suspend2 Core.
Suspend2 Compression Driver loading.
Suspend2 Encryption Driver loading.
Suspend2 Swap Writer loading.
ACPI wakeup devices:
LID0 SLPB AZAL RP01 RP02 RP03 RP04 LANB MODM
ACPI: (supports S0 S3 S4 S5)

Actually Linux suspends to ram or to disk.... but the reverse unsuspending doesn't work.
In case of Suspend-to-RAM it shuts down notebook in 1-2 seconds. When I try to resume back, computer starts but the screen is black from the very beggining. Caps Lock Num Lock buttons work but thats all, no response to Ctrl+Alt+del or Ctrl+Alt+BackSpc.

In case of Suspend-to-disk, upon resuming book freezes at the very begining (the same as sus-to-ram), after reset it start booting linux kernel followed by resuming process. The resume reaches stage of "reading cachies" 47/123MB and freezes.

So I may suggest that suspend2 software lacks some instructions for this notebook model when resuming is started.

in hibernate.log there is nothing about errors.
the last line is hibernate: Activating suspend ...

I tried to find something with Google, but no success. There are some people out there with the same problem, but (it seems) no solution :-(

Thanks Aaron,

I hope in forthcoming suspend2 versions a solution will appear.

Will be any effect if to contact technical support from fujitsu-siemens?
I may suggest the reason is in BIOS. Ijust refreshed BIOS and notebook still hangs upon resume but I see "inux" written on LCD :0).

Thanks again

I doubt it. Probably they'll say "only Windows XP Home Edition is supported"...

Searching in web shows me that the problem is in libsata under linux. It should be solved in 2.6.17 kernel... waiting for its appearance in my distro

AHCI

Postby ysse » Wed Aug 16, 2006 12:04 pm

My Amilo Si 1520 behaved the same as far as I can tell.

I had noticed that the BIOS setting for "ATA control mode" was factory set to "Compatible". I switched it to "Enhanced", which also enabled AHCI configuration. After that I had problems waking the system after suspend.

Disabling AHCI made suspend work again.

Of course, these are different systems, but still it sounds like the issue is somewhere in the SATA modules.

Hi there!

Once a new 2.6.18 kernel appeared in my distro (ALT Linux) I got working hibertante on my V2040 notebook.

Now my notebook can do suspend-to-RAM with
#echo mem > /sys/power/state

and suspend on disk with
#hibernate

I can send more details on request (D_._Kovalskyy_at_enamine_._net)
