Laptop crashing/ATI chip problem Amilo M1450G

Postby ed3203 » Sun Jan 07, 2007 2:59 pm

I write this in more of a hope it will be useful to someone else. I plan to return the laptop to dabs. It was openbox, bought yesterday and problems the same day.
The laptop crashes and freezes continually, I tried updating the bios, reattached the hdd, memory and cpu cooler(not wanting to do too much to void the warranty)
The problem seems either to be due to overheating or a bad connection(light flexing can cause a crash), something connected to the ati chipset. The problem however doesn't seem to be limited to this series many others seem to have a similar problem.
Fujitsu siemens has forums and amilo forums exist but the users don't seem to be getting much help.
Its a shame I don't really want to take it back, I paid 370 as it was open box and don't think i could get anything with these specs. I could send it for warranty I guess, don't know if it'll be replaced for a refurbished or fix the original tho.

Any ideas would be appreciated, ed

sounds like loose inverter problem check your monitor. lcd screens usually give this problem if the laptop has been banged up a bit.

thanks for the reply, while i still could i sent it back on warranty. The laptop felt a little too flimsy to me even tho it was a nice price and looked good. I got a toshiba sat pro a120 with a money back warranty should it break :D Cheapest core duo i could find and built like a rock for 400quid
