Amilo M1439G Fan Problem

Postby legobros » Tue Apr 04, 2006 12:47 pm

Hi,
I'm using a notebook amilo m1439G with debian sarge and kernel 2.16.15.
I can't setup cooling mode via /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/cooling_mode, it says "setting not supported". (Maybe it depends on my acpi).
The problem is that the cpu fan under linux is always at high speed, producing some noise, even with low cpu temperature, and under windows the fan slows down when the cpu temperature is under 50°.
The fan is handled by O.S. or by the BIOS?

Thanks
legobros

Hi legobros

Because nobody answered so far, I searched for the last corresponding thread on the German forum.
According to http://www.amilo-forum.de/topic,7118,-L ... -10-0.html it has been tried several times to fix this problem with a new DSDT, but no success :-(
(This problem also concerns the M3438 und M4438.)
In Windows there is a registry fix for Geforce drivers. But we don't know what it does...

Aaron

I have the exact same problem with my amilo 7440g, wish there was a solution to it, the constant fan noise stops me from running linux :/

@REEPER
You could try this:
Code: Select all
echo -n 0 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state
echo -n 0 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN2/state
echo -n 3 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state
echo -n 3 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN2/state

In the German forum a M7440 user posted this.
