cannot burn bios cd iso

Postby bailout » Tue Jan 09, 2007 12:07 am

I am going to update the bios in my 1505. I have downloaded the cd iso from fs support, in fact I first tried with the 1.08 and now with the 1.10 and get the same result with both.

After brning the iso the cd is completely blank. It has a name in explorer and when I triied booting to the 1.08 cd it booted to a free dos prompt so something was burned. However, there are no instructions just the dos prompt and if I look at the cd in explorer it is blank, no bios flash program.

I have tried with the two bios versions I listed above and even downloaded the 1.08 version twice to be sure. I have tried burning to two different rewritable cds and one writable cd and tried on both my laptop and my desktop with both nero 6 and 7 and k3b under linux.

What am I doing wrong?

many thanks

That's ok.

Try "dir" to see the files. There should be a file like "readme" where you get the instructions. (You can view text files with "type" or maybe "edit".)

Thanks for the reply. It sounds as if my cd burned ok then. It is strange that the files do not show up. Anyway I see the following files if I run the dir command from the freedos prompt:

kernel
command
autoexec
flash
l50ii0
sflash16

Do I now just run the flash.bat file? If so is the command just 'flash.bat' or run 'flash.bat'.

Does updating the bios, without being told to by support, affect my warranty? I assume not as it is openly listed on their download site without any warnings.

thanks

No, you don't get to see the "real" content of the CD - you see the content of a boot image.

"flash.bat" should work.

If the update is successful, it doesn't affect your warranty.
Afaik a bad flash of the BIOS is only covered by warranty if you're told to upgrade the BIOS by the support of FSC.
