Amilo L7320GW - Can the wireless connection autostart?

Postby lk » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:25 pm

Hi,

I am just wondering if the wireless connection can be autostarted together with windows xp home edition? So that I don't have to turn it on very time with "Fn" + "F2".

Regards

I suppose there is no BIOS option to activate it permanently?

Amilo La1703 & Auto WLAN during boot-up?

Postby astro72 » Wed Feb 21, 2007 4:26 pm

Same thing here: Amilo La1703 and NO "hot-buttons" for WLAN (I have to use Fn + F2 combination to enable/disable it).

BIOS doesn't list any settings for WLAN (such as 'enable at startup' or similar). I am aware of couple of softwares that are capable to handle keypresses (WLAN on/off) during boot-ups, but I guess that in this case it doesn't work for me as the keypress 'Fn' is not considered as a keypress that returns a numeric code(?) that enables the software to start the wireless radio.

Does anyone have a solution for this? It's a really annoying thing....

I don't know, but maybe this "ENE Driver for Keyboard Controller" is responsible for activating WLAN? Perhaps it's possible to get it work under Vista (compatibility mode, real administrator rights).

I too find this very annoying.

The way i get around it is to Hibernate my laptop instead of shutting it down. This makes for a faster startup, saves all your open apps, and ,of course, keeps the wifi enabled.

Let me know if you need help enabling/applying Hibernation.

I bought, few days ago, an Amilo La1703 with Vista Basic - and I face the same problem with Wi-Fi.

Out of the box, the Wi-Fi on the La1703 wasn't working: the connection was dropping continously during file transfers, unless it was at less than one meter of distance from the Wi-Fi router.
After the Wi-Fi card driver upgrade, the behavior of the PC normalized.

Nonetheless, everytime I boot the PC I have to press Fn + F2 to turn on the Wi-Fi, and then go to the Control Panel to activate the wireless function.
Those are two unnecessary steps that renders my La1703 disfunctional.
I have seen many different Wi-Fi laptops of different brands, and this is the first time I encounter such an unwelcome "feature".

I tried to write some keyboard macro with "Autohotkey", but I had problems, since the mapping of the Fn button, and its toggle function.

Fujitsu-Siemens specifically indicates in their F.A.Q. that the Wi-Fi function has to be enabled at every boot-up.
In my humble opinion, this is unacceptable. They could modify the BIOS or write a small software for MS Vista (which would be better and less risky for the user), in order to permanently enable Wi-Fi at boot-up, as it is common in the vast majority of today's laptop.

I hope somebody from Fujitsu-Siemens is reading this...

Does anyone have a solution (another than hibernating) to this issue?

*Major bump*

Seriously, any sort of answer or solution?

My gran just bought a 2735 and I'm trying to make an auto-backup procedure to pull files off her desktop on boot - but with the Wifi always being disabled it just throws a bunch of errors :(.

I used to like Fujitsu Siemens laptops but now I've gone right off them (and I'm glad I bought an Asus! Ha).

After all of this time, I'm waiting for a solution, too.
I believe would be very simple for FS to place a call in the BIOS, like many other manufacturers do, to enable the WiFi at startup. I don't think to be the only one to stay off the FS because of this simple glitch.

Here is the solution for starting wireless on startup :

go START > run > notepad ENTER

write this in the notepad

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

Set oExec = WshShell.Exec("C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\WisWBSet.exe")

do while WshShell.AppActivate("Wireless Status Option")=False
WScript.Sleep 100
loop

WScript.Sleep 100

WshShell.sendkeys("{TAB}{TAB}{LEFT}~")

and save it as wifi.vbs

put the file wifi.vbs in the startup folder and this will do the job

I'm going to try your visualbasic script.
It would solve a very annoying situation.
Thanks

Hey, i know this thread is ancient now but i wanted to try the visual basic solution above and am confused about where to put the vbs folder...

also, i have a l7320gw but i can hardly ever find the model online, not even on the fujitsu website which only lists the l7320g, are there any fundamental differences between these laptops?

Thanks, James
