Upgrade V2030 CPU to Pentium M740

Postby illuvata » Sun Jan 21, 2007 4:52 pm

Hello,

I've replaced the celeron M370 of my V2030 by a pentium M740. My problem is that the bios recognize the new CPU but the CPU clock frequency is only 6*100 MHz.
My questions :
- Why the multiplication factor is only 6 ?
-Why the FSB frequency is 400MHz instead of 533MHz (Normally possible with the via P4M800 Chipset ?

I've already get a thread on the fujitsu forum : http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/forum ... highlight=

I think the BIOS doesn't recognize EIST, you could try to activate this with RM Clock.

Afaik the BIOS doesn't support 533 MHz :-(

Thanks for reply.

I use notebook Hardware Monitor and I've asked "maximum performance" but nothing has changed. (stay at 600MHz). I think that NHC has detected the IEST because I could set different voltages for different frequencies with the pentium but I could not with the Celeron. Is RM Clock is différent ?

I'v read the Topic : "L7300 CPU upgrade" and it seems that if I keep the same FSB (400MHz) with a M735 for exemple, it will work better. What do you think ?

Yes. You can see "EIST active" or not - and if not, you there's a checkbox to enable it.

It will work with its full speed.
Your M740 will work with only 1730 MHz / 133 * 100 = 1300 MHz. That's not optimal ;-)

Thank you Aaron,

Now with RM clock I've got a 100MHzx13=1300MHz frequency on my processor.

So I will get a Pentium M7x5 to have an optimal speed because actually the Sandra Lite benchmark give results with the Pentium M at 1300MHz less than for the Celeron M370 at 1500 MHz.

Last question : There is Execute Disable bit on the Celeron M370 but not on The Pentium M7x5. Is it impotant ? Because it's realy difficult to find some 7x5A with this bit.

Execute disable bit isn't that important, I think.
