Amilo D1845 BIOS Password issue

Postby Rhadamanthys » Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:53 pm

Hello everybody
I´m new to this forum & joined so that I could fix the following problem
I´m writing from Santiago, Chile. Not too long ago, I purchased a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1845 from a german gentleman that was visiting
He sold it to me real cheap because the unit had a problem that the battery was not recognized in windows, hence never charges so needs to be permanently plugged into the wall to work

Investigating the issue, I´ve read that this battery issue, along with the heating up problem can be resolved doing the BIOS Flash to the 1.04

In my attempt to do this, I´ve come accross the following problem
When I press F2 to enter the BIOS on startup, it asks me for a password; which obviously I donot have
Looking up the process of the BOIS flash, it requires me to enter the BIOS, change the settings option, remove the password & proceed

Now since I dont have the password & the man that sold me the notebook isnt even here anymore, I have no clue how to "break in" to the BIOS to do this & hopefully fix the notebook

I read somewhere that manufacturers sometimes have a Master password for these situations, I called up the Fujitsu Siemens helpline & after getting the runaround, a gent tells me that there doesnt exist a master password & since the warranty on my notebook is no longer valid, they offered me as LITTLE help as POSSIBLE

Please someone help me overcome this issue; I would be eternally grateful to you
Can I just go & try the flash without ever getting into the BIOS? Is there a chance that the BIOS gets damaged & the computer turning useless?
Does anyone know how to reset the BIOS password with via internal jumpers?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

That's right, there is no master password.

It is strongly recommeded to load the BIOS defaults after flashing, so I wouldn't do this.

Yes.

No, but even if I had - we can't give any information. That's an internal convention of this forum, because we have no possibility to check your or especially others readers identity.
FSC can reset the password, but of course that isn't for free (and I don't know if it is possible in Chile).

Don't you know his name or anything to help find him?

Thanks for the reply Aaron

Please, if you have ANY hints as to how I might resolve this, please please let me know; I know the guys name, but he´s left now & didnt really leave any forwarding address in Germany, just his contact info & address where he was while here - I didnt think I would need it really, since he was straightforward from the beginning & told me about the battery problem & that the PC heats up; he even threw in an external cooler he´d bought to use it....

Its only when I strarted reading through this forum, I realised that both the problems could potentially be fixed & came accross this password.....

In fact in one of the posts, I read about the notebook heating up "could" lead to loss if data. Yesterday I took home a program to measure the HDD temp & compare the values to those posted on the forum. I was absolutely stunned at the results I received last night, using the notebook, all by itself, the HDD temp goes up to 60°C, using the external cooler as a base, it comes down to 55°C; risk of data loss is @ 65°C !!!!!!!! & I think it can easily get up there if really put the processor to "work". The notebook was just "on" yesterday & it went to 60......

Please somebody help me out, Isnt there a way of resetting the BIOS via jumper settings??

I really like the notebook & the processor with 3200 GHz & Hyperthreading is capable of so much; I just feel so helpless now (that I "know") - to think that I was using the notebook for over a month without realising that this can be fixed or that I´ve been on the verge of losing my data & possibly the notebook!!!

Can you give me the name via PM? (I live in Germany.) Or try yourself to find him, use e.g. http://www.telefonbuch.de/ and Google. Of course chances depend on how popular his name is...
Maybe another person in your town knows something? Did he come with an organisation?

55°C is the recommended upper limit for harddisks, so it really shouldn't be more.

I´ll PM you his name, but I dont think that is the solution, it sounds like a pretty common name to me & besides I cant for the life of me remember where in Germany he was from - I´m pretty sure he told me. We met up various times after I got the notebook off him - GOD I´ve GOT to start paying attention to what people say!!! hahaha

Amilo D1845 BIOS Password issue

Postby GMV » Thu Feb 01, 2007 6:56 am

Hi,

Just an idea! Go on google and type bios passsword recovery. You'll find a lot of hints about, some on well known/trusted sites. Try one (I don't know if there is a risk or not in doing this, I never tried) that accomodate for your BIOS. Let me know about results.

Thanks a lot for your help guys

I sorted it out; since you guys dont want this sort of information posted on the forum, I wont say how but if anyone finds themselves in the same spot, shoot me a msg

I went ahead & flashed the BIOS to 1.04 & the notebook runs at least 10 to 15 ° cooler now

I was also hoping that the battery would reappear & windows might recognize it but it didnt happen. what DID happen is as soon as I rebooted after flashing the BIOS, the battery recharging light on the left came on, windows still doesnt recognize the batt; the light is PERMANENTLY on (even when I pull out the batt) & the didnt charge at all, pulling out the plug kills the notebook

Any thoughts? Seen anything similar to this?
