Amiloa1645 runs at 800Mhz dispite the sticky msg

Postby MrBloom » Fri Feb 02, 2007 2:38 pm

Hello, i have a problem that is surely common, cause there is a sticky massage that explains how to solve it.
my cpu should run at 1796Mhz but it actually runs at 798Mhz.
CpuInfo says that the multiplier is set to 4x while the maximum is 9x.
I tried all the solution proposed but i cannot get along with it yet.
this is what i did:
(computer is a notebook amilo A1645 with Mobile AMD Sempron 3100+(LV))

* Windows displays a wrong freq. (often on Athlon64 or Turion64).
Answer: Use special tools for checking, e.g. CPU-Z (core speed)

i tried several programs but everyone of them gives the same result.
moreover i wrote a little program in order to check out the time
necessary to accomplish some operation (i just print 10000 times
a string). well it gives a better result (1.4 instead of 5.0) on another computer
with Athlon 1333Mhz cpu.

* AMD-processors:
Download processor drivers (Athlon 64, Turion 64, Mobile Sempron)

i reinstalled drivers from the cd i got when i bought my laptop
actually, it's weird because when i tried for a second time the driver istallation wizard in the cd says that
the only drivers it lacks is the cpu's one, despite i had just installed it!

* The notebook use rechargeable battery
You should change the "power options properties->power scheme" to e.g. "Home/Office Desk"

Power is set to maximum, but the only configuration that i could find is energy saving from control panel.

* Load BIOS defaults
Eventually you have to load the "Optimized defaults" in the BIOS, so that the automatically changing of core-speed works.
* There is a option in the BIOS, which prevent clocking up.

done, nothing changes. Moreover BIOS doesn't allow to change FSB frequency or clock frequancy at all.

i don't know what to do now, any suggestion?

thanks

HI,

Don't worry about this. I have same laptop as you. Go on AMD site and download a small file(exe) , install then and that will show you exactly what is your processor (~1800MHZ). Or you can go on Microsoft site on support files (knowledge base) type something like processor frequency and you'll find some hidden commands in windows that will help you. I hope this will be useful for you.

*let me know about results

Hi, thanks a lot for your answer.
it works!

i had no doubt that the drivers i got with my notebook
would have worked well. i mean: if they provide the cd with the notebook
i find not reasonable that it doesn't work!

anyway...now it goes faster (i wrote a little program that shows the time
of execution of some lines of code and it gave better results).

what i wonder now: if i want to use linux, do i have to run my cpu at 800Mhz?
i saw at AMD site some drivers for linux but sempron wansn't included in the list of supported processor, but i didn't spent too much time for it.
(http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Tec ... 86,00.html)
anyway when i'll install it, i'll see! maybe i'll post here my result

thanks again

Hi

No, the Linux kernel (with standard configuration of most distributions) includes the drivers :-)

Hi,
Happy that you solved your problem. But, I've posted few weeks ago a problem I had with my amilo a 1645. I made a bad flash and I requested a system report that will help me to solve my problem(look for "amilo a1645 system report" issue on the forum). Can you help me?

*The laptops are generally expensive things we can afford. Why don't we help each others? Why are so many readers and so llittle writers for the problems we have? Personally I try to help every guy with a issue he has with his laptop and offer an alternative to moderators...which for sure are paid by FS???!!!
