Partitions

Postby ktvdepoe » Mon Feb 05, 2007 10:22 pm

Hello,

I recently bought an Amilo SI 1848 and want to partition the hard drive before I start working on it. The recovery CD only allows me to make a partition of 10 Gb (my hard drive is 120 Gb) as a C: drive. But I would like a bigger C: drive to install my OS and additional programs. Is there any way to do this easily (with the supplied Recovery CD) or is the purchase of additional software such as Partition Magic really necessary?

Regards,
Karl

The recovery cd is a normal Windows cd, so there shouldn't exist a 10 Gb limit. Is there an error message?

Thanks for the reply.

The recovery CD supplied with my laptop is apparently not a normal Windows CD (it contains the logo from Fujitsu-Siemens). When I boot from this CD, I get the question if I want to partition my hard drive, and after confirming this, I could only choose to make a partition of 10 Gb. I chose that option and the installation was completed normally, including the partitioning. I checked with the help desk, but they had no idea how to solve it (except by buying Partition Magic).
If anybody has experienced the same thing and has found a way to solve the problem, please let me know.

Regards,
Karl

Strange, I never heard of these recovery cds... Where did you buy the laptop?

I can recommend http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php to partition your harddrive, it's free and very good.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try. The PC was bought in a big shop called Mediamarkt, where they sell a lot electronic devices (from toasters to washing machines, iPods to computers). In the mean time, I have found somebody with the same problem on another forum, so I'm not an isolated case apparently.
Anyway, thanks for the help.

@ ktvdepoe & aspettl: I just bought a Amilo Pro 3515 this weekend and I have exactly the same recovery DVD problem. I can only have 1 big HD or 10GB System HD and the rest. I also called FS support and they also said to me that they don't know these DVDs. Very strange...
