D: drive has dissapeared (nub sorry)

Postby murnie » Sat Feb 10, 2007 2:34 pm

Hi people !

Hoping you can help! I mainly use my amilo to play Battlefield 2142 at the moment and dont have a great grasp of the workings of computers. Since last night when trying to play from the DVD drive, i am prompted to insert a disk into the drive.

Cutting a long story sort, my D: drive is no longer found on my computer! Explorer doesnt show any drives other than C:

The last thing i did was update ATI Catalyst to 7.1 and things werk ok.

*** Deep scans done through Adaware & Fsecure *** - clean scan

Any straightforward suggestions for a nub will be gladly received. Thanks

Specs:

Amilo XI1546, T2400, 1.83ghz, 80gb H/D

Ok, i have worked out that if i plug in my headphones and go throught the Realtek identification of whats been plugged in, D: is not found anywhere!

I can reboot the system with the phones still in and hey presto - D: found.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Got my laptop in August 2006 andnever altered Realtek drivers. Cant work out if theres more recnt drivers available - Realtek site = confusing!

Please, can someone suggest anything???

Thanks

You say your DVD drive is recognized only when your headphones are plugged in?

Does the BIOS show the drive?

Hi Aaron,

The drive is recognised as usual if there are no external devices plugged in like headphones etc. If i plug headphones in then my D drive dissapears as a result.

It only finds itself again following a reboot and then the drive works and i can listen through my headphones

Sorry, im not sure how to check toe BIOS. How do i do that?

Many thanks

Ah, of course!!

I checked and it is showing the Phillips DVD drive. Any ideas??

Arer there any known conflicts with catalyst control 7.1 with drives etc? Cant seem to see any on Google!

Are there any recent firmware updates that i should have on board that arent shown of FSC's site? Their drivers are all very very old for some reason!

Thanks

Ok,

FSC helpdesk suggested that i reinstall windows to reinstall the dvd drive drivers. that don it does now find the drive bt periodicaly will not find it so im thinking the laptop needs to go back for some work.

after the install i now have some issues with the synaptics touchad in that it wont move as expected and sometimes is restricted to horizontal movement.

The usb ports will also now not find my usb mouse. The mouse and usb unit are talking to each other as the unit flashes when the mouse is moved. Any suggestions? there is no disk to install the mouse its plug and play, it worked before the reinstal of windows.

help!!
