In December 2006 I logged onto the Fujitsu Seimens web site and checked for updates for my Amilo D1845.
it had been working like a treat. I had noticed that it reccomended a BIOS update and also another programe I was running suggested I get the latest BIOS update for my computer.
this I did. I followed the instructions, charged the battery , left AC power on and flashed the bios via ISO disk image.
no problems .... or so I thought ....
A week or two (or three later) ... I noticed that the computer was not able to run on the battery., I thought that well the battery is dead after 2 1/2 years, so I ordered a new one. When the new battery arrived I plugged it in and it said
4% charged charging ....
However several hours later it was still charging and it was only 4 % charged .
Next thought .. faulty battery or wiring problem between a/c adaptor and battery charger....
However looking into this there seems to be a wealth of problems where the computers firmware no longer charges the battery. Especially with microsofts ACPI driver and AC adaptor system there seems to be a problem. Microsoft reccomends a reinstall of operating system after BIOS update .. this I tried with no luck .
If you try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305037 or related topics you may see some issues.
One issue said microsoft may have a hotfix but only for specified issued with battery charging. However as my laptop is now out of warrenty I cant go back to the manafucturer for support and as operating system is OEM version microsoft not able to offer unpaid support.. ( The laptop is 2.5 years old and yes I did look for optional extra 3 year warranty but was not available outside mainland GB).
Can any one help here.
And yes my wife is treatning divorce as I have spent probally too much time trying to fix this problem ... it would have been much cheaper for me to work and buy 2 or 3 new notebooks!!!
My advice would be stick with the your current set up and dont threaten your set up and risk divorce by flashing (?dodgy?) BIOS !!!
anyone know where I can get a copy of my original BIOS or should I just try a format of my hard disk and reinstall the operating system. (current Bios version 1.04 or 1.04c)
Anyone else experiencing similar problems ??
Not going to reccomend Fujitsu - seimens at present . Support access not great. ( I had excellent system with Scaleo Desktop but this notebook ... a disaster)
