Vista Freeze - Amilo d 8820

Postby XM4N » Sun Feb 25, 2007 10:06 pm

Got my vista copy a couple of weeks ago. Instalation run fine but the computer freezes at random times.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do but to hard boot the laptop, sometimes is only the mouse frozen but is still possible to acces the start menu via the keyboard but with no mouse ther is no real point... the computer just freezes.

I am using all the vitas drivers and run the memtest installed vista again, repaired the instalation and installed the xp old ATI driver... nothing can solve the issue.

Is ther anybody running vista on the 8820?

Is there anything you can suggest?

Cheers

Had a look at the event viewer.

There was an error with the ati2mtag that reads:

------
The description for Event ID 52225 from source ati2mtag cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
---------
Any idea?

Ok, first unistalled all drivers and went back to the generic VGA driver that comes with Vista.

Then installed the CHIPSET driver that is on the FSC site (is for XP)

And then reinstalled the ATI driver from the Vista Windows Update.

THE RESULT: haven't had any crash for the last 12 hours or so... cross fingers is ok now.

Was expecting Vista to tell me "STOP- you are installing and old chipset driver" but did not tell me anything... would like to get hold of a Vista driver for the Chipset, I know is Sis but do you know which model is installed on the Amilo D 8820?

Good :-)

Data sheet says "SiS 645DX + 962 chipset".

Is more stable but still had a crash yesterday when I moved to install a PCMCIA card reader... It installed fine after hard booting and it has been fine since...

Another thing I tried was to see a DVD. Vista should be able to let me play a movie without installing any TP software.

The sound was good but the image is very bad, i will try today with another dvd as it may be a funny dvd - Pirates of the Caribean 2.

My Amilo monitor shows
Generic non-PNP monitor

The screen is Hitachi but can not find the driver anywhere...

Would you know where i could find the driver?
