Amilo 1538 bios

Postby kbroodco » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:19 am

Hello,

I have a Amilo 1538. The initial bios version was very basic so I u flashed it with the new version on FSC site. Unfortunately it does not give me more options: very little information is shown. Is there an other BIOS version available with mote options.

Thank you.

That's normal and there are no other versions.

Is this with all Fujitsu-Siemens notebooks or only with the Amilo series? And why, if I may ask?

Depends on what you want to do.
My Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook has more options than Amilos - but most are security related, only some internal components can be deactivated and some very basic options.
There are no RAM timings etc. - and that is normal, also for (most) other brands.

Why? Of course I can't say for sure. But mostly there is no need to change anything. Better a stable system than a little bit more speed and much more problems (support, repair costs etc.).

Well, there are existing some BIOSes (i.e. for Amilo A), where you have just to go into setup, and set "Logo" wiev or extended ;).
Another way - only when you exactly know what you are doing - is the modded BIOS...

What is a 'modded bios'?

"modded" = modified.
In most cases, in officially delivered update from FSC there is nothing more but some options just invisible, not removed.
Well, if you'll use Google, and if you kave knowledge about bios structure, you can unlock it ;)
I'm fresh owner of Pa1538, so i didn't looked into it yet, but with Amilo A7640 it's working fine.
One important warning: even if you'll have the pathed/modified for another Pa1538 one, you have to be careful. Here's an example: first time with Amilo A7640 I screwed up, bcs another revision of mainboard. Fortunately, one of my polish friends is more familiar with me, and he flashed it with eeprom programmer correctly.
Otherwise, if something will go wrong - you have to pay to FSC service guys :-/

It would be very useful if Fujitsu gave us access to a more complete BIOS (to try settings for more stability).....
