Graphics upgrade (onboard graphics chip)

Postby HRB5O » Fri Apr 21, 2006 1:58 pm

I have an Amilo A7640 and want to know if the graphics can be upgraded in line with todays games. Mine is 32MB at the moment whereas most new games ask for 64MB and above. Is it possible to install a new graphics card (or equivalent) or do I have to buy a new computer?

Hi HRB5O

I doubt that you can upgrade your graphics "card". Your graphics solution is a SIS onboard chip and this cannot be changed. Furthermore for upgrading an additional graphics card you need a MXM slot or something similar. I don't think you have something like that in your A7640.

To put it in a nutshell, you have to buy a new notebook if you want to play current games.

For "borderline cases" try the latest SIS driver for your onboard chip:
