Vista Recovery DVD  Topic is solved

Postby Sciamano » Thu Mar 29, 2007 7:09 pm

Hi!
I've just received my Amilo SI1520, and I would like to delete the hidden "backup" partition which takes 12gb of hard disk space away.

Since this partition contains backup files I was wondering if it is necessary for the system to be restored or not.

I mean, I have a Vista Recovery DVD, but I'm not sure if I can install Vista from scratch using it, or if it is just some kind of "boot disk" that installs the OS by simply copying files from the hidden partition.
In the first case I can erase the hidden partition without thinking about it twice, but if it's the second case, I guess I'll have to keep it.

Anyone knows this?
Thanks! Best regards
Luca

Ok, problem solved by trying the recovery DVD on a virtual machine on my PC.
The recovery DVD is actually a Vista OEM Setup disk, therefore the 12Gb partitions is useless.
Hope this helps others with my same doubt.

Ciao!

Thanks Luca, this information helped me during openSuSE 10.2 install on a Pa1538 as I was wondering around the same problem and Recovery manual is somewhat confuding on the matter.
