Audio Issues M3438G

Postby lego » Sat Apr 22, 2006 10:39 pm

I cannot get any audio playback on my laptop. When I got the laptop it was in german and I had to format and reinstall english XP home. I originally had no problem playing CD's, mp3's or with system/program/game audio but did have a problem with DVD audio... there just was none. I tried winmedia and quicktime (having misplaced my power dvd disk). I installed VLC player and that worked fine.

Last night however I found my Cyberlink Power DVD disk and re-installed that. Now I have no audio whatsoever. when I try to open volume control it says

There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

This program will now close

I have done this and Cannot find any new hardware. In device manager under sound/video and game controllers there is a yellow asterix beside "Microsoft WINMM WMD Audio Compatability Driver" and when I look at properties it says

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Windows media when trying to play anything says

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

I have also gone to the windows update website and have downloaded an update called "realtek high definition audio" which appears to have had no effect.

Help!!!

Hi,

South Bridge in the M3438G:
Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M

there included is the HD Audio Controller:
Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M - High Definition Audio Controller

added to this is the sound chip (HD Audio Codec):
Realtek Azalia ALC880

-> therefore you need a driver for ALC880 HD Audio Codec from Realtek. The HD Audio Controller driver for the Intel chipset is included in Windows, if you have updated your WinXP with the right update (KB888111).

Driver for the Intel Chip (KB888111):
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/Downl ... CBCFDCD88F

Driver for Realtek HD Audio Chip:
http://w3serv.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ ... o%20CODECs

It is very important that you update first your windows, and install Realtek drivers after that.
To be sure that you don't have any hardware malfunctions, you better reinstall WindowsXP.

Aye after a lengthy re-install and a few updates. I got it working again. Thanks Borkar. The ISO disk with raid drivers tutorial saved my life aswell. Cheers.

Hi,

i'm also having no sound after reinstalling xp several times.
I just reinstalled xp, updated to SP3, and then reinstalled the drivers.
The only time when i get sound, is when i install the realtek driver: xp asks for a reboot, so i do, and then i hear the reboot sound.
When windows starts again, there is no more sound.
Please any more suggestions of what's wrong...?
thanks

is you use the SP2, you need to install the KB888111 that you can find on FSC servers. If you use SP3, do not try to install the KB888111.

If you install XP with integrated SP3 and then the Realtek drivers, can you make a screenshot of the device manager and upload it? If there is a yellow exclamation mark on the "Windows High Definition Audio Bus", you have problems with the KB888111 which is integrated in the SP3 or you have broken hardware.

Also do BIOS- and Hardware-Reset as described in the Hardware-FAQ.

currently i'm trying with a fresh xp+SP2.
Just ran the KB888111, and directly after that the Realtek drivers.
Below you can see a screenshot of the current devices in device manager.
When xp starts, i hear a silent 'cracking' in the speakers, the sound of enabling the speakers. But no sound...

After reinstalling the drivers again, I get one device extra:
(!) Modem device on high definition audio bus

Pointing to the modem drivers doesn't make the device work...

Hi,

can anyone please help me out what drivers i must use for the "Modem device on high definition audio bus "?
I tried so much drivers no, can't find the right ones.

Screenshot of device manager is attached. One time (after installing the realtek HD Audio driver) I got sound again: that was right after installing the driver, i got the shutdown sound of windows. Then on restarting, no more sound again... Just don't get it.

Any help is appreciated!

in "system devices", there should be something like "High definition audio controller" or "Microsoft UAA Audio" (similar to this) entry. Is there a yellow mark?

Some people assumed / reported that you need to install proper modem drivers to make the sound work.

Hi Borkar,
in the meantime i edited my previous post with a screenshot.
Right now, i have an exclamation mark . Did not see it most of the time. Right now, i'm running each install again, maybe that caused the exclamation...?

As for the modem drivers: i cannot get them installed...
maybe that is indeed the case, and that i must install first the modem, and only afterwards the audio...? however, can't install the drrivers from the fujitsu website for the "Modem device on high definition audio bus" ...
