is my M3438G dead??? please help!!!!

Hi there,
Thanks for your time and I will try to give all the details.
I have been playing Ghost Recon on my laptop for a while and have had a problem where the game locks up. The only way out has been to turn the laptop off. Occasionally I have a problem booting back up. Just hangs on the front Fujistsu screen (press F2 for bios). usually I can turn off the computer again and after 2 or 3 attempts at this it will boot up into windows and all is well.
This happenned again this morning, game locked up, I turned the computer off and it got stuck on the boot up screen so turned it off again, then nothing!!!
the power light comes on as does the battery light if plugged in, I can hear what sounds like a fan or something, but not the big one you can see underneath. There is however nothing displayed on the screen.
I have been reading others problems and tried a few of the steps - taking out the ram does not raise any alarm, and removing the hard drive does not affect anything either. I have never flashed the bios so nothing I have done there!!

I am desperate for help as I have bought this on ebay and it is outside of the warrenty with Fujitsu.

Thanks again

Ben

Our Amilo D1845 will occasionally hang and fail to re-start when running on the AC adapter. For us the solution is to unplug the AC adapter and start from battery. Have you tried that?

NickS - - Thanks for your reply. I am afraid to say it ain't that, I must have tried over 30 different times to turn it on, with and without battery - mains - no joy!! I am positive it is the Bios chip that is knackered - FSC tell me this can not be replaced and has to be the motherboard. Quote was about 400 pounds!!

hey there,
just to question is there any place I can go other than E-bay for a spare motherboard - is it just the one that works in this model or can I get one from another model of amilo??

the motherboard for amilo is
Uniwill P71EN0 motherboard

it has been used in number of models, including

uniwills P71EN0 notebook
amilo
x43x series (3438, 4438....)
alienware 5x00 series

I've had a burned mbo for a couple of months now.
I've moved on to the next notebook... the hp this time.
but now I've got some spare time and I'm trying to get it fixed again.
all my efforts to get a second hand mbo went down the drain.

at this moment, the best thing I can hope is to get a spare alienware mbo, from the stated, or new generation models.

I suggest you visit this site; http://www.excelcomputerinc.com/

they have motheboards for diferent models. I also suggest you do a quick google on the alienware models with this mbo, since those should work.

this is the motherboard that should be compatible with the 3438...
http://www.excelcomputerinc.com/partpic ... ory=boards

it's a core duo, and IMO everything should fit nicely in the 3438....
the screen, ram, dvd, should work.
but it would need a core duo processor and a new wireless card.
it's a "cheap" solution... but it should be more cost effective than getting a new mbo from fsc.

there are also a number of "motherboard repair" firms online, that offer repair of motherboards for reasonable price.
do a search on those, and maybe you get lucky.
