AMILO 1437GQ_"Setup is starting Windows"

Postby koslyr » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:30 pm

I have bought a second hand AMILO 1437GQ laptop. It has installed the WinXP Home, so I decided to make a clean installation and make a setup of the WinXP Professional.
But I whenever attempt an XP installation (booting directly from my CD), it
it launches all necessary drivers and files, but never gets past
"Setup is starting Windows". After I google search I found some proposed solutions (ACPI, USB disable, F5 for standard PC) and with some changes to BIOS (ACPI configuration) I manage to get the next screen (Welcome to Setup).
But for my bad luck when I press ENTER (to set up Windows XP now), I get the below error message
“Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer”

My first concern is to find out if there is any hardware problem with the hard disk of my laptop. Is there any tool to make a full check of this?
After, if all is all right I must find a way to overcome this problem in order to install the WinXP Pro. Maybe, a another solution (?) could be an upgrade to BIOS. My current version is 1.10C. Is anyone proposed something like that or is it too risky?

I have overcome all the problems for the new clean installation of WinXP Pro to the Amilo 1437, but the usb interfaces don't work at all.
When i connect a usb mouse or a usb stick the laptop freezes at all and i have to make a hard reset.
So far i have used some proposed solutions (uninstall the usb controllers, load optimal usb from bios, make again install the chipset driver, the workaround by "http://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,82,-WinXP-USB-Problems-FAQs.html") but the problem remains.
Is there anything else to use in order to address the usb problem?

Not sure that this is a software/driver issue at all :?

Can you boot a Linux Live CD and try to use the USB mouse?

Unfortanetly i dont have a Linux Live CD in order to test the usb modem.

Do u think that it is necessary to reinstall the chipset drivers or is it irrelevant?

At the device manager all the usb controllers seems to be ok.

Like said, I think it is a hardware issue... that's the reason I asked for the Linux Live CD, so we can see whether it freezes there, too.

Can you boot with your XP-CD, without USB devices, then connect them - what happens?

Yes.

Finally, i reinstalled the WinXP Home ant the all usb ports work fine without any problem. It seems that the WinXP Professional creates a driver problem to the function of Usb controller.
Anyway i will survive with WinXP Home.
